New Houses to be built by East Ayrshire in Creelshaugh road

by Sandy Scott

The community council held a meeting in the John Fulton memorial hall last night re the above. I can report that there was a very good turn out for this meeting.

The main points that came out was that Attrium, working on behalf of East Ayrshite Council want to build new housing for "Medical and Ambient" residents. That these houses would be filled from East Ayrshires housing list with No preference shown to Fenwick residents. These houses would be open to the residents then to buy.

These houses are going to be built on an area which for over 20 years has been, a safe area for local children to play in whitch is within eye site of their parents, and a right of way from the village to the George the 5th playing fields.  The trees will be uprooted, There will be no room for local amenity,s and medical vehicles to turn in, as there is at present.

What really scared me, among other things may I add, was that they have chosen to do building work, off, of one of the busiest streets in Fenwick. Are they serious about sending construction lorries down an already congested street where school children are getting dropped off. The grief that, as we have heard in the news lately, one poor family is now living through, where they lost their child due to a lorry fatality. Are they really serious after long drawn out meetings and decisions re planning meetings for housing in the village, as reported on this site under "housing in Skerniland" with social housing included. That they want to rush through this totally unwanted extra houses. Which may I add blows away their planning departments recommendation should be kept to 75?

As well as the above being muted at last nights meeting it was also felt that East Ayrshire was not being totally fair in the time scale of people being allowed to object i.e late receipt of letters of notification to residents.

If this small piece of ground is used for planning does that mean that all the other grassy areas that help to give this village it,s character. i.e Glebe terrace, Glencraig terrace and many more. Just look out your window! Therefore this not just a concern for all Creelshaugh bot Fenwick and Laigh Fenwick residents.

As reported above there is a very tight time scale to register your interest or object to this planning proposal, Monday, close of business 23rd of August. It was stressed at the meeting last night that if posting you send your letter first class with"proof of posting" to arrive by Monday or better still take in your letter by hand and ask for a receipt. This is important as proof of postage or a receipt protects you in case of any accidents happening.

If you need any further advice or help, it is recommended that you contact John Macfadzen or John Smith or anybody on the Community Council or local resident. Also remember you do have a local councilor and she also is there to fight your corner especially when the overwhelming majority of local residents as was witnessed last night are against this proposal

You know, change is inevitable but you can either let it just happen and overwhelm you ar you can grab it and control it. It is up to the people of Fenwick and Laigh Fenwick to control the future of this village. Use your local representatives.
