28/1/2010How are we doing with the new 20mph speed limit in Fenwick?
In a report by the Executive Director of Neighbourhood Services to seek the approval of the Cabinet for the introduction of mandatory 20 mph speed limits in residential areas in East Ayrshire, the motivation for the change was stated as follows:
"The proposed new speed limits are designed to improve community safety and the environment in local communities. The project will address the need to reduce speeds and improve road safety for school children and other vulnerable road users, including the elderly, the disabled, cyclists and pedestrians."
In Fenwick the streets where the new 20 mph speed limit was introduced include Auchans Place, Blackfaulds Drive, Blackfaulds Gardens, Braehead Road, Dunlop Street, Glencraig Terrace, Glebe Terrace, Holm Crescent, Kirkton Place, Maunsheugh Road, Murchland Avenue, Poles Road, Raith Road and Rysland Drive.
How are we doing so far? Do you think the new speed limit makes a difference?
- A waste of taxpayers money AGAIN. You would need a Ferrari to do 20 mph in most of these streets. We didn't ask for them in the first place. Just more clutter for our conservation village. The Roads Dept. just can't leave things alone, always interfering. Ronnie Andrew, treasurer, Fenwick Community Council.
- Re the speed limit in the village: can someone advise me is the new limits enforcable on a private road as I have notted two private roads with a 20 m.p.h restiction sign up and as much as I agree with, in general, the new limits I would hate for a costly mistake of time and money if the powers that be were wrong on this occassion. Which ones are they and I will ask EAC Roads?
I gather that there is outrage in Fenwick (as from visitors to the village), that the splendid new trees planted on Waterside Road have had to be removed - on Council instructions. Surely EAC knows where any service cables are?
If we can't have trees, (although if their roots were put into large pipes placed vertically underground, as in Town centres, they would not affect any cables etc)... then what about a decent hedge to improve the appearance of this desolate and seemingly unnecessary lay-by?
Can I also congratulate Fenwick on the new roadside benches between Fenwickand Waterside.
